As we usher in the new year of 2024, Nike is poised and “Mad Ready,” as some would put it, to unveil an exciting update to its revered Phantom series. Following the triumph of last year’s Phantom GX and Luna models, the arrival of the Phantom GX II and Luna II brings forth a wave of anticipation and promise.
In essence, Nike seamlessly integrated the Gripknit technology from the GX I with the Cyclone 360 plate of the Luna I. This fusion was meticulously engineered to enhance traction and cleat rotation, resulting in improved movement dynamics, heightened agility, precision, and confidence for athletes on the field.
The inclusion of an asymmetric lacing system expands the touch surface for players. With a repositioned lacing pattern, there’s increased adjustability around the mid-foot, catering to players with flatter or higher arches. Additionally, an asymmetrical Flyknit cuff material ensures a snug fit, reducing the risk of blisters.
Furthermore, the reappearance of Gripknit is noteworthy. This distinctive, adhesive material envelops the cleat’s strike zone, facilitating precise boot-to-ball contact. Stretching from the big toe side to the offset laces and all the way to the pinky toe, Gripknit enhances control and accuracy during gameplay.
Drawing inspiration from the Luna I, both the new Phantoms now boast a raised, ribbed texture in the upper, further enhancing grip on the ball.
Initially introduced last month as part of the Nike Vortex pack, these boots have now been released in fresh colorways, such as the striking White/Black/Metallic Gold Coin design of the Mad Ready pack. The Elite version of the Phantom GX II (weighing 6.8 oz) is priced at $260, while the Luna II (7.2 oz) is available for $285.
